Surface Preparation
New plaster surface to be painted should be allowed to mature at least for a period of six months. Remove loose particles on plaster and rub lightly with sandpaper. Previous coatings of lime wash colour wash and powder distemper must be scraped off. In case of repainting, earlier coating of oil bound distemper or emulsion based paints need not to be removed if in sound condition. However, the sheen of such coatings must be removed by sanding. Acri-silk Acrylic Distemper will not be suitable for walls previously painted with oil-based paints, glossy, semi glossy, lustrous, etc, until the previous coating are thoroughly scraped off. Wherever British Paints Solvent Thinnable Primer is used, overnight drying and then proper sanding are recommended before finish coat of a Acri-silk Acrylic Distemper.
Application
Apply a coat of British Primer (Water Thinnable or Solvent Thinnable) where necessary. For best results, fill up dents with suitable putty applied in thin layers. Wherever application of spot putty or full putty is resorted to, a coat of British Paints Solvent Thinnable or Water Thinnable is recommended as an undercoat on the top of putty for eliminating the patchy appearance in final coats. Acri-Silk Acrylic Distemper is supplied as a thick paste and water is to be added slowly to the paste while stirring to obtain brushing consistency. Normally 500-650 ml of water is required for 1 kg of distemper. However, amount of water needed, will depend upon the porosity and texture of the substrate. Apply 2-3 coats by brushing, keeping an inter-coat interval of about 4 hrs, between successive coats.
